KIOS Is Announcing the Civic Action and Community Empowerment Grants (CACEG) — Funding Available for Local Organizations in Isiolo and Migori Counties in Kenya
We are thrilled to announce the opening of our Civic Action and Community Empowerment Grants (CACEG) in Kenya. This grant program is specifically designed to support community-level initiatives. Grassroots and community-based organizations in Migori and Isiolo counties are welcome to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI). The deadline for submissions is 31 July 2024.
The primary focus of the Civic Action and Community Empowerment Grants (CACEG) is to support CBOs and grassroots groups working for human rights. Grassroots community initiatives are often the hardest to reach and the least supported. These initiatives are vital for the emergence of a strong and vibrant civil society in Kenya.
This small grants scheme is part of the EU-funded project Haki Ni Yetu – a Rights, Governance and Accountability Project for Kenyans. The project also aims to strengthen grassroots groups through training and capacity-building. It is implemented by the KIOS Foundation in Finland together with Kenyan civil society organizations InformAction and CSO Network.
Funding for Human Rights Work in Isiolo and Migori
For this first round of grants, only organizations registered and/or based and operating in Isiolo and Migori counties will be considered. Later on, the grant program will be rolled out in other counties.
The grants are meant for community-based organizations and other civil society organizations or groups working at the grassroots level. Special focus will be on youth-led and women-led organizations, as well as groups and organizations led by marginalized groups.
Thematically, the grant program addresses democracy and the rule of law, gender equality and non-discrimination as well as business and human rights.
Examples of activities that may be considered for these grants include, among others, advocacy, monitoring and reporting on the human rights situation, awareness-raising, providing legal aid, or capacity-building for local human rights defenders.
The size of the grants to be awarded will be between 500 and 4,000 Euros per organization and the planned actions may last between 3 and 12 months.
Two-stage Application Process
We invite interested and eligible organizations to submit their Expressions of Interest by 31 July 2024.
The Haki ni Yetu consortium will review the Expressions of Interest and invite the best applicant organizations to submit full applications.
